DEDICATED WORKS

Sharon Bezaly has always had a great interest in contemporary music and is presumably the living flautist with the greatest amount of concertos inspired by and dedicated to her in the world. At the time of writing this there are a great number of concertos and a lot of chamber and solo music from more than two dozen composers, among which Kalevi Aho, Sofia Gubaidulina, Christian Lindberg, Brett Dean, Sally Beamish and Haukur Tómasson stand out, as do the efforts of no less than four Sinoamerican composers and a Chinese one.  All of these concertos are recorded and freely available at her house label, BIS Records.  Also Jeff Beal – the composer of several famous works and an EMMY-winner for his music to the famous TV drama series *House of Cards* – will be ready with his Concerto during the first half of 2016.  Thus 16 composers from 11 countries in five continents have written 20 concertos for her, on top of which we can add a lot of composers with chamber and solo works, all dedicated to her.  And more to come…

WHAT’S UP?

I am immensely thrilled to start an exciting collaboration with Jenny Rose at A.O.R management Inc. in Seattle as my general manager!
Jenny has been working hard these last couple of months, setting everything up and we are now ready to launch!
Please find her contact details under ‘CONTACT
With such a dramatic winter in play, it is hard to believe that Spring is just around the corner!
I am looking so much forward to the US première of Jeff Beal’s flute concerto with the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Osmo Vänskä.  (4th, 5th & 6th of May)
I have played with Osmo many times, with different orchestras around the world (Lahti, Finland, Gewandhaus, Germany, Sendai, Japan, Minnesota). He has taken Kalevi Aho’s concerto under his wings which has been such a privilege.  This concerto by Jeff Beal, known for his music for the Netflix TV series House of Cards, for which he won an Emmy, couldn’t be more different than Kalevi’s concerto, which is one of the very exciting aspects when commissioning new music.
Jeff’s concerto has a very dramatic first movement, with many American influences, a wonderfully lyrical second movement and a fun and jazzy third movement that really rocks! Ah, it also has an electric bass guitar as part of the band -:)
I have spent wonderful days with Jeff, his lovely wife Joan and their talented son Henry, who played the electric guitar, when we recorded the Concerto and the House of Cards Fantasy last June with the Norrköping orchestra (Sweden), conducted by Jeff.  Not composing myself, it was such a treat to be part of the creative process, working with Jeff, sometimes on Skype and then when actually in the same room (my family’s own music room).

RECORDINGS

Sharon’s collaboration with her record label, BIS, has produced dozens of exciting recordings with repertoire ranging from the flute’s core repertoire, like Mozart, Ibert and Nielsen, to the breaking of new ground with repertoire like concertos by Sofia Gubaidulina, Kalevi Aho, Christian Lindberg, José Serebrier, Brett Dean and Sally Beamish, to name a few of the composers that have dedicated their works to her.

Teaming up with orchestras like the Stockholm Phil, Gothenburg SO, Residentie Orch in Haag, Lahti SO, São Paulo SO, Singapore SO, Tapiola Sinfonietta and several others, she has made music with conductors like Osmo Vänskä, Neeme Järvi, Alan Gilbert, Lan Shui, Martyn Brabbins, and John Neschling. She has also been very active in chamber music, collaborating with musicians like Gidon Kremer, Roland Brautigam, Nobuko Imai.

Her work with producers like Rob Suff and the five producers in Take5 has resulted in accolades such as Diapason d’Or, Choc de la Musique, Gramophone’s Editor’s choice, BBC Music Magazine’s Choice of the Month and Fono Forum’s Stern des Monats as well as the ECHO Prize and the Cannes Classical Award.
